High-performance multiple-donor bulk heterojunction solar cells
Broadening the absorption bandwidth of polymer solar cells by incorporating multiple absorber donors into the bulk-heterojunction active layer is an attractive means of resolving the narrow absorption of organic semiconductors. However, this leads to a much more complicated system, and previous efforts have met with only limited success. Here, several dual-donor and multi-donor bulk-heterojunct...
متن کاملHigh-Permittivity Conjugated Polyelectrolyte Interlayers for High-Performance Bulk Heterojunction Organic Solar Cells.
Conjugated polyelectrolyte (CPE) interfacial layers present a powerful way to boost the I-V characteristics of organic photovoltaics. Nevertheless, clear guidelines with respect to the structure of high-performance interlayers are still lacking. In this work, impedance spectroscopy is applied to probe the dielectric permittivity of a series of polythiophene-based CPEs. The presence of ionic pen...
متن کاملStreamlined microwave-assisted preparation of narrow-bandgap conjugated polymers for high-performance bulk heterojunction solar cells.
The most efficient plastic solar cells comprise a blend of conjugated polymer and a suitable electron acceptor, typically a fullerene derivative. Therefore narrow-bandgap conjugated polymers are currently sought for the fabrication of such devices. A significant challenge is being able to predict device function and performance from consideration of the molecular connectivity and dimensions of ...
متن کاملLiquid Crystalline Polymers for Efficient Bilayer-Bulk-Heterojunction Solar Cells
The unique temperature-dependent solubility of liquid crystalline poly(2,5-bis(3-alkylthiophen-2-yl)thieno[3,2b]thiophene) (PBTTT) enabled us to construct the first bilayer-bulk-heterojunction devices based on a PBTTT: PCBM (1:2)/MDMO-PPV:[70]PCBM (1:4) active layer. The bilayer device exhibited an extended optical absorption over the solar spectrum and concentration gradient that enhanced char...
متن کاملBodipy-backboned polymers as electron donor in bulk heterojunction solar cells.
Bodipy-based polymers, which possess a high absorption coefficient with a bandgap of approximately 1.6 eV, have been used as electron donor in solution-processed bulk heterojunction (BHJ) solar cells containing PCBM as acceptor. A power conversion efficiency (PCE) of approximately 2% has been achieved with V(oc) of approximately 0.8 eV and J(sc) of approximately 4.8 mA cm(-2).
